This is a phylogenetic tree constructed to demonstrate the speculated relation between individuals.
There's no way for us to tell for certain how each individual is related, but we can speculate based on how close individual's alleles are to another individual. The trees that have alleles close to each other are more likely to be closely related, while when the alleles are farther apart, they are less closely related.
An interesting observation is that certain individuals were present in both patches that we retrieved samples from. This is likely just because of the proximity of the groves of aspen.
Future Studies
Optimize more microsatellite primers to work in order to analyze different areas of the aspen genome.
Larger sample size - collect more data for more information.
Determine shared traits between trees that have died due to sudden aspen decline in order to prevent or mend the effects of SAD.
